An Unresolved Mystery Holds an Amish Community in Limbo In book two of A Mifflin County Mystery series, Rosa Petersheim's disappearance continues to cause suspicion and pain to swirl in the Big Valley. Ada's best friend, Rosa, disappeared a year ago and still has not been found. In their grief and confusion, Ada and Rosa's boyfriend, Ephraim, have grown very close. But some in the community feel Ephraim is responsible for Rosa's disappearance. Now Rosa's younger sister is making accusations against Ephraim that can't be true, and he pulls away from Ada, feeling betrayed. A fire set by an arsonist might finally be the thing to reveal secrets that have long been dividing this community of friends and family. But will it be too late for love between the peacemaker and the suspect?
This captivating novel is the second installment in the Mifflin County Mystery series, picking off the thread of Rosa Petersheim's sudden disappearance and its lingering impact on her family and friends. The narrative shifts its focus to Rosa’s best friend, Ada, who yearns for a fresh start and brighter days amidst the pervasive grief and confusion that Rosa's mysterious vanishing has cast over their close-knit community.
My Thoughts:
While an air of mystery hovers over the storyline, the emphasis lies on the characters' emotional journeys as they strive to move forward, all while their lives remain inextricably linked to the unresolved tensions surrounding Rosa’s disappearance and the ominous shadows that loom over Ephraim.
I was particularly loved how the author skillfully delves into Ada's deep-seated desire for renewal—for a new chapter in her life that includes her feelings for Ephraim. Yet, she grapples with her own insecurities, causing her to question her self-worth, which in turn strains her relationships, especially with the person she holds most dear.
Wanda artfully illustrates the ripple effects of secrets and an unresolved mystery, showcasing how they can permeate every layer of a close community. This tension is particularly palpable when the threat of arson fires ignites a greater sense of urgency. The author’s rich descriptions of the Amish lifestyle, combined with heartfelt family dynamics, create a vivid backdrop for the unfolding drama.
This lovely story interweaves familial bonds, suspenseful mystery, and a tender, wholesome romance, all anchored in solid faith-based themes.

THE PEACEMAKER (A MIFFLIN COUNTY MYSTERY, 2)
By Wanda E. Brunstetter
This is a contemporary Amish mystery. It begins in Belleville, Pennsylvania. Ada Detweiler's best friend Rosa Petersheim disappeared over a year ago. Rosa's brother Norman had left no stone unturned in the effort to find his sister.
Ephraim Peight moved to Bird-in-Hand, Pennsylvania to help look after his widowed grandmother. He has other things that he wants to do with his life, but he's doing the right thing for his family, right now.
Some mysteries are explained in this book, but others are not. It could be a stand-alone book, but it helps if you read these books in order. I've read book 1 and I plan on reading book 3 when it comes out.
Wanda E. Brunstetter is a wonderful Amish fiction author. I love how she substitutes Pennsylvania Dutch words into her text and puts the meaning of the words in the next sentence or two. You feel like you are learning a little, while you are reading her novels. She always adds a little of the Christian faith into her books, it makes her characters seem more real. The bonus recipe at the end is perfect!
