As Marina and Edward become entwined in each other's lives, the stakes escalate. best in the series so far

"Life and love are gifts. Some of us have them longer than others. We shouldn't waste them out of a fear to act." The series gets better with each book. I'm amazed at the complexity of the overarching arc of the whole series. Some of my questions from previous two books have been answered here. I loved going back in time from book 1 to this book, experiencing post Cold War, Cold War, then WWII through the Neumann family. This book is my favorite so far in the series. It painted such a vivid picture of eastern front of WWII that I knew little about. Edward was such an interesting hero - a history professor turned OSS agent who leads with his heart and carries a boatload of regrets. Seeing Edward in this book helped me understand Edward in the previous two books. Marina was a true heroine - tenacious, fearless, and full of grit. She suffered so much trauma and carried terrible emotional wounds yet was able to overcome bitterness and fear to lean on her Maker. I loved the faith lessons sewn into the plot. This story, more than the other two, had a lot of heartache and loss. I cried for Edward and Marina and their story made me re-read the ending of the first book Prodigal with a deeper understanding. If you are a fan of Susan May Warren and have not read this series, I highly recommend it. I received a complimentary copy courtesy of SDG Publishing and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.
