To achieve the outcomes requested of her, the inexperienced Royal Guard must improvise and navigate between her present situation and the limiting beliefs and uncomfortable territory of childhood memories. INVITATION overlaps the events of the prior books, offering a glimpse into the process by which she maneuvers to complete her mission, bringing her into contact with the Abbess of the Monastery, the leaders of the Susmehren Guild, officers of The Ninth House, local Nerollians including the matron and patrons of a lively pub. By commanding these situations, she comes to know herself as capable.
