Rivals any great writer of any time. My hero and favorite writer. She's brilliant and too often overlooked.

Yep. I agree. Wonderful, completely surprising, and the stories from each period are very different. You have to read them.
A compelling and worthwhile read

These collection of novellas are a real revelation. Originally, I had only bought the book because I am a great fan of Gellhorn's jounalism, and I wanted to check out her fiction.I loved most of these novellas. They are written with such clarity and lucidity, and with such insight into human nature. More importantly, her storytelling is simple but strong. A wonderful book that I reread again and again. Why her fiction is not as highly rated as her journalism, I dont know.
