Jack Skellington is the Pumpkin King, the ruler of Halloween Town and master of all things creepy and spooky. But he's tired of his life in the shadows and longs for something new. When he accidentally stumbles upon Christmas Town, he decides this is the perfect chance to try his hand at a brand new holiday and is convinced he'll have the world yelling "Scary Christmas"! With the young patchwork doll Sally trying to dissuade him and the evil Oogie Boogie waiting in the wings to take over Halloween Town in Jack's absence, he'd better hurry if he wants to get his plan in place by December 25th! This is the soft cover manga edition!
Everyday is Halloween in Halloween Town, but Jack Skellington, the pumpkin king, ruler of Halloween Town, and master of all things ooky and spooky, is tired of the same humdrum kookiness. When he accidentally comes upon Christmas Town, he decides that's his chance to liven things up by creating a new holiday, Scary Christmas! But the sweet patchwork doll Sally believes that the holidays do not mesh like that and tries to dissuade Jack, but the pumpkin king cannot be stopped, until things go awry... Can Jack and Sally set things right before Christmas is ruined?
As a fan of the movie, I feel like little bits and pieces were missing, but I can't even place what they are, so it did not impact the story at all. Speaking of the story, flipping through the pages and seeing the familiar faces gave me such a sense of nostalgia! Seeing these beloved characters in black & white in my favorite format (manga) was such a treat!
The art was gorgeous, and the lines were soft, giving the book a light and airy feeling so it didn't feel too dark even with all of the creepy fun characters and details. And the iconic scene with Sally and Jack on the curly hill was beautiful, along with an almost glittery Zero.
As a fan of the movie or not, this was an amazingly fun read for any age. And now that I've read the classic, I'm even more excited to read all of Zero's Adventures (Disney Manga: Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas - Zero's Journey)! Also by Tokyopop, centered around the bestest ghost dog in Halloween Town, Zero!
I like nightmare before Christmas movie as manga fan I have bought most Disney manga that I like wat

Best manga comic movie adaptation to movie
Great, but not entirely as enjoyable as the movie

I'm a huge NBC fan & I collect just about everything that is related to it that I can afford. When I discovered that there was a manga version of the movie, I was overjoyed & purchased it immediately. While I did enjoy the manga, I just didn't get the same rush from the book that I did with the movie. I can't quite put my finger on why (apart from the lack of music), since the book is a very faithful adaptation of the movie. Perhaps it's because the book is told more from Sally's POV than Jack's or because the black & white artwork (while beautiful) lacks the colors of the movie. Would I recommend this to a friend? Despite not getting the same rush, I would. It's very well drawn & very faithful to the movie. The plot is very clearly done, so it's possible for someone who's never seen NBC (if such a person exists) to read the manga & know what is going on.
A "Must Have" for manga/nightmare fans
