Dotty had the most beautiful feathers. Stalky had the most beautiful legs. And Plumy had the most beautiful crest. But which of them was the most beautiful? The three hens went to the king. "Whichever one of you lays the most wonderful egg I will make a princess," he proclaimed. And so the contest began... Helme Heine's rollicking tale is sure to enchant children and adults alike.
This is a lovely story with a wonderful message for children and silliness to boot. It does not matter what you look like, so long as you do something of value. The hens in the story learn this...wouldn't it be nice if everyone felt that way. Plus the ending is always greeted with enthusiasm, whether a child has heard the story before or not. I use this book in storytime with small children and they love it, and so do their parents. Truly one of my favorite children's books :)

The Most Wonderful Egg in the World

I liked this book. The king announces a contest to produce the most beautiful egg in the kingdom. Three chickens do just that but in three different ways. What's a king to do? I not only thought that it was a great story but that there was a simple lesson within its pages for both children and parents. This book is a must have for any one who has children who in constant competition for outdoing every one else in the family. Also, the book gives insight to the parents on how to deal with this competition when you think that each of your children posess special talent. Parents of multiples would especially enjoy this book.
