The Menu is New Haven's first and only comprehensive restaurant guide. The "relentlessly opinionated" first edition quickly became a classic, and this revised and updated second edition is bigger and... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I have referred to this book so often the pages are coming loose! This is a must have for anyone dining in New Haven County. It is such a useful and reliable resource that I often give it to others as a gift. Not only do they review the majority of the restaurants in New Haven (along with notable restaurants in neighboring towns) but, they also provide lists. You can find lists of the top restaurants for: overall quality, food, atmosphere, attitude, and value. There are also lists of restaurants by cuisine and location. Get this book and you'll never have a poor dining experience again!

i can't believe new haven was without a good guide for so long and i don't know how i survived my first few years there. this also makes for very engaging reading, so if you pick it up just to choose a restaurant, be sure not to book too early, you might find yourself an hour later still on the couch reading dead-on entertaining and engaging reviews. absolutely a must if you live in the area. the authors also do a great job of putting on the map places one would not normally think of when deciding where to dine. they do a great service to new haven.
spot on

my goodness! this is by far the best restaurant guide i've ever used. every review was spot on, and i was very impressed with the authors' frankness. it's refreshing to have a restaurant guide that doesn't read like a list of paid advertisements from the restaurants. this is truly the first guide i've read with such honest, well-researched, and even hilarious advice, and the authors really know their stuff when it comes to food. it's too bad they only seem to have a few cities so far. i'd love to see one of these in every city in the country--in the world, even!
Very useful

Articulate, accurate, and a critical resource when you live in New Haven and are really tired of Thai food.
New Haven residents need this

How many hours and dollars do you spend eating out? Lots, probably. But, especially when you're new to an area, you don't really know where to go--and thus end up spending a lot of time and money that could have been better spent elsewhere. For this reason, any restaurant guide is valuable. The Menu is a very good restaurant guide. Since I bought it last spring, I have used it dozens of times and have almost always been happy with the results. My only criticism would be the authors' taste for greasy spoon food and distaste for vegetarian, which at times borders on the perverse (come on, Educated Burgher is *not* better than Gourmet Heaven.) But even there, they know how to discern the good from the bad--Gourmet Heaven is better than Claire's, and the Yankee Doodle is better than the Educated Burgher. The strength of the book is its range--from the best pizza to the best diner to the best ethnic to the best upscale, the authors are authoritative. There's no book I bought since I moved to New Haven that has been more valuable to me.
