Good for Sweet and Tender Romance

I agree with Book Mom's review. I,too, like my cowboy/western romances somewhat hot and steamy. For that, I would also recommened Diane Whiteside and Sarah McCarty (my favorite!). But for a sweet and tender romance, this book was good.

Fantastic Debut Novel!

I won't go into another synopsis since it's be described previously, but this was an amazing book for a debut! The sweet, emotional story had me reading as fast as I could. Sean is a beta hero with a heart of gold. He's done his duty to his adopted family, helped raise his cousins and only now is pursuing his own dreams. Lottie has been shunned and gossiped about by most of the town, but has held her head high and done what she had to do to survive. I will definitely be looking for Ms. Valdal's next book!

Pretty Good Read

Sean O'Connor has waited 10 years for his cousin, Patrick Malone, to send for him. Patrick left his native Ireland for America, searching for gold in the hills of Canada. Finally, Sean has made it to the country on his own, and finds himself in the the town of Prospect, searching for his cousin and gold. Lottie Graham has also been waiting for Patrick Malone. Ten years earlier, a love affair with Patrick culminated in a son, however Patrick left to pan gold, without ever returning. Having a child out of wedlock made Lottie a pariah in the town, causing her to retreat to the farm Patrick bought for her. Sean ends up helping Lottie out on the farm in order to build up the funds to go gold panning. Lottie resent his reasons for being there, but ultimately needs the help that Sean provides around the farm. Slowly, the love affair builds in the book. Lottie must learn to love and trust again. Sean must learn that what he has at the farm is more important and more valuable than gold. THE MAN FOR HER is a good story and well worth the read.

Pretty good

Strong characterizations and intriguing plot devices make this a good book that I am glad I discovered. What keeps it from getting one more star is the lack of payoff in what was a nice build up of sexual tension between Lottie and Sean. Their love scene is quickly glossed over in a couple of paragraphs, which may be just fine for many readers. I happen to prefer my romance quite a bit steamier, so that was a negative for me. If you want to read a really hot story with another hero from Ireland, you'll find a great one in "The Irish Devil" by Diane Whiteside.

independent woman rancher learns to love again

Great characters, nice development of them, moments of joy and of sadness--loved the fox and geese game--and the details of farm life too--all naturally interwoven too. The style was effortless to read, and the plot was exciting. Convincing historical details of farming in the Kootenays and of the gold rush.I especially liked the descriptions of the Dewdney Trail: I once followed it almost to its end and it was just as hair-raising as in the book. From now on I won't think of it without thinking of Sean and Lottie and Michael!
