A warm, soft double chocolate brownie spiked with mocha and cinnamon is the kind of delicious, to-die-for dessert that has made American born Adriana Rabinovich's Little Red Barn famous throughout England. Every year Adriana offers her growing number of fans a cute catalogue packed with pictures of mouth-watering sweets, baked goods and party tid-bits. Now Adriana has created a cookbook that includes recipes for her famous treats as well as new inventions. The Little Red Barn Baking Book brings together easy-to-follow recipes for a wide variety of goods, both salty and sweet. The Little Red Barn grew out of Adriana's lifelong passion for baking, one that developed from the very moment she laid eyes on her first Suzy Home Maker Oven at age five. When she found herself living in England, Adriana recalled the all-American recipes that defined her childhood and sought to recreate them in her new surroundings. From muffins, biscuits and scones to cookies and petit fours, Adrian's recipes reflect her family's favorites and they're updated with her personal flair. While I consider myself to be an accomplished cook, I've never been all that good at baking...in actual fact most of the cakes and cookies I've ever baked have turned out to be inedible! This book, however, is a godsend and all the recipes turn out perfectly every single time. The results have been an absolute hit with my family, friends and dinner guests, and I'm sure you'll not be disappointed either. You have simply not lived if you haven't yet tried her 'Devil's food cake', a divine, rich chocolate cake. I also love the Cinnamon Buns, Zucchini and poppy seed loaf, Savoury Pumpkin Bread and Cheesecake Swirl Brownies. The book does not restrict itself to desserts and has a small section on canapes and hors d'oeuvres. Try the Spicy Gougeres (a savoury version of a profiterole made with Gruyere cheese), the caramelized onion tarlets or the Pepper jam tartlets. Yum!
More than a book on baking...

I bought this book and found myself as engrossed with the anecdotes and clever design layout as by the recipes. I read it cover to cover and then started baking. The recipes are simple to follow and yet emerge from the oven to rave reviews and requests for the recipe. To which I reply -- get your own book! This one won't sit on the shelf collecting dust. It will be up on the counter, spine nicely cracked, gathering flour and bits of chocolate in between the pages.
