The Little Book of Hugs has few pages, and many of them describe different kinds of hugs. Each named hug is illustrated by a cute cartoon picture of two or more animals (usually bears). Though the bears are primarily simple outlines, they seem to capture the essence of the hug. I wouldn't say that this is a definitive list of hugs; that is not the purpose of the book. The pages at the start of the book describe a hug philosophy. I have taken the phrase "may I have this hug?" to heart. The pages at the end of the book describe `advanced' techniques that explain how to benefit from the spirit of a hug without an actual physical hug. The pages have rather delightful titles, like "hug visualization" and "zen hugging". The book is usually prominently displayed in my home. Once a friend of a friend saw it an exclaimed "he has a hugs book!". They sat down with it, and started laughing over it. When I saw it displayed at the home of a friend of another friend, I immediately felt quite comfortable. I'd give it four and a half stars if I could figure out how to.
