Unexpected!

This book was a complete surprise! I am not from Eastern Europe nor do I have any connections there. I bought this book to learn a bit more about the history prior to attending a conference in Krakow, Poland. This book is not only well written, but it explains the tragedy that is the life of the last king of Poland. It takes place during the time of the American and French Revolutions, Catherine the Great is a prominent figure, and now I understand much better why history unfolded as it did in that part of the world. Fast moving, comprehensive, poignant. Highly recommended!
