Harry White was born in Dublin in 1958. He was educated in Dublin and Toronto, where he was awarded the University of Toronto's E. J. Pratt medal for poetry in 1984. He has been Professor of Music at University College Dublin since 1993 and is well known for his work as a musicologist and cultural historian. Among his many publications are Music and the Irish Literary Imagination (Oxford, 2008), The Encyclopaedia of Music in Ireland (Dublin, 2013) edited with Barra Boydell, and The Musical Discourse of Servitude (Oxford, 2020). His previous collections of poetry are Polite Forms (Carysfort Press, 2012) and The Kenmare Occurrences (Kelsay Books, 2018).
