This book - by FAR - has been the BEST I've read in a long, long time! I LOVED the way the author put the story together, by using 'flashbacks' here and there to get the story across and how certain characters met each other long ago, and things that happened to them long ago. The actually story itself takes place in a three day period...This was a quick read, but also very riveting! I just did NOT want to put this book down. This one will definately be a keeper and will be read again!!
A great thriller

This book was one of the best thrillers in years. I am not sure why it has not been the most talked about book this year. The characters are stimulating and the suspense is riveting. It may not be literature but if you want to relax and be taken away from reality for a short time, curl up with this book.

i completely agree with jason and i have no idea what book those other two reviewers read but it most definitely was not this reallllly good suspense thriller! i loved this book! parts of it made me laugh out loud while other parts just completely riveted me and had me turning the pages as fast as i could read them! the characters are fantastic and the plot is quite original! this will shorten any plane ride, keep you up at night and give you several hours of pleasure! i can't wait for the next one, 'the editor' for another thrilling ride on simpson's literary rollercoaster!

I have currently read four of Mr. Simpson's books. The Gypsy Storyteller is my favorite so far. His last two books (Caretaker and Hancock Boys) are quite different from his previous work. It seems that Mr. Simpson has switched to a lighter reading, thriller format. Despite the lack of depth in either of these latest novels, they do not lack in readability and enjoyment. The Hancock Boys is as good a quick-read thriller as I have read in years. The story never grows dull, and the quirky characters never fail to entertain. I hope that Mr. Simpson someday returns to writing books that have substantance as well as great storytelling. But either way, this thriller is well worth the read. Its the kind of book that flies by so fast that you are disappointed just to find it has ended. I can't say that about many of the paperback thrillers that line the walls of most stores. If you enjoy this book you should try and dig up some of his earlier work. Its worth it.
An excellent novel of suspense!

What a great story-teller; Simpson combines dramatic action with almost literary prose. It doesn't matter that the story is free-wheeling and unlikely, his narrative style just carries you along. I have every one of his novels, why is this one a paperback? This is DEFINITELY a must-read for any serious reader of contemporary fiction.
