Mary Newton Bruder, better known to her fans as the Grammar Lady, is one of the nations leading authorities on grammar and she is determined to make America care about grammar again Now available in... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I purchased this book for fun as a way to brush up on my grammar and learn things that I never quite understood about usage. This is more of a cover to cover read (if you want to get everything out of it) and not a book that you want to use as a quick reference. I found it more of a "here and there" reader more than something that I could become completely enthralled in since there really isn't any order or flow to it whatsoever. This book helps the reader to become a little more aware of grammar usage when it comes to everyday things, and it makes you realize how many things you learned incorrectly in school. There are, however, many questions drawn about usage that are left unanswered. The author is witty and at times sarcastic with her responses to her callers and can really come off as a grammar snob. On the other hand there is a lot of personality present in her writing which makes reading about the topic more enjoyable and less like a textbook.
I wish I could have had this in high school

If you cringe when you hear the word "grammar", then this is the book for you. Mary Newton Bruder has a caustic wit that made me laugh and she must have been a brilliant teacher becuase she also made me learn. I feel more confident about my language skills after reading this book and was amused. What more can you ask?
