This is one of those great picture books, whose artwork and imagination make it a joy to read for older children and adults, yet which remains innocent enough for even the youngest children (3 years to 103 years!). If your target audience is a mixed-age group, say kindergarten through 3rd grade, this would be a perfect choice. This is a simple tale of a girl who is rescued by a dolphin while swimming in the ocean, attended by her grandfather in a row boat. That night she joins the dolphins in a wonderful dream, and is rewarded with a gift from the sea come morning. It is a celebration of imagination, and of feelings of connection to the natural world. The soft yet detailed pastel illustrations are outstanding. Similar books that I also highly recommend: "The Whales' Song" by Dyan Sheldon, and "The SandCastle" by M.P. Robertson.

I am one of Deb Desaix's students and I am in awe of the work that she does. This book contains some of the finest illustration work I have seen in childrens books and the book concept is quite beautiful.
