Better than the Slithering Corpse

This is a companion to the book The Slithering Corpse and other Sinister Stories. This one is MUCH more of a visceral read - plenty of people dying and getting hacked up or devoured. Though the other one did terrify me, I read this first, and it has always had the power to send a chill down my spine. The first story especially, still affects me, and I read this book 11 years ago! It was terrifying as a child because the circumstances are quite easy to relate to and brings back to mind all those things in the dark you never wanted to see. Although it has the same scare-factor as Alvin Schwart's books, those stories really relied on Stephen Gammell's drawings to amp up the fright. These stories could stand on their own. The font, the drawings, the abrupt, rather simple way it's written - perfection for any child who REALLY wants to feel the icy chill of fear clutching their heart!

It lives up to its name. Very entertaining and gripping...

I enjoyed it immensely. I bought both in the series and I wished there were more "gore" in store. They were short, but very satisfying. I would read it again and again..
