This timely compilation features 365 simple actions people can take to make an impact on their communities and the world. Each suggested action, in 16 "helping" categories, can be started and finished in a day or less, and none requires a cash donation. Readers may choose to accomplish a different step each day of the year, activate the same tool every day, or take the actions in only a particular chapter that addresses a personally favored issue. Categories include the homeless, health issues, education and children, feeding the hungry, environment, arts, honoring elders, animal welfare, pursuit of peace, and informed consumerism. Possibilities include acting as driver for a battered women's shelter; planting trees or a garden at a schoolyard; recycling running shoes into a playground surface; taking a day off from consumerism; aiding low-income students in finding grants and scholarships; helping unemployed workers put together resumes; and much more.

What a refreshing read - both thought provoking and resourceful, In today's "information overload" society, it's nice to have a handy resource to help me accomplish many of my personal volunteer goals without it being so much work. In fact, I'm going to buy copies for all my nieces and nephews as they are all charged with doing community service projects and, in my opinion, need to experience that "giving back," among other things, makes you feel good about yourself!

Ah...the Difference a Book Makes!!! If you are finding yourself disheartened by the current state of world affairs, don't walk, don't run, but FLY to buy this book. "The Difference a Day Makes" absolutely blew me away -- and guided me to land in a place I had not yet known existed. A place where I could feel more helpful and less hopeless as a world citizen. A place where giving back is easy and simple, no matter what my resources look like. A place where it doesn't matter how or where I start to make a difference -- because in this book, all the "getting started" work was already done for me. This illuminating gem reads less like a book of resources and more like inspiring prose; the author's graceful, gentle voice did more than informed me -- it inspired me, to my very core. Thank you to Karen Jones for being a beacon for all of us who are ready to change OUR worlds by changing THE world.

I recently received this wonderful book as a gift, and all I can say is how incredibly amazing it is! While I have always thought of myself as a "nice" person and have donated money to charities, this book made me realize that there are so many more ways to actually make a difference. Through this little book, I have already learned of many easy and different ways to help make the world a better place. I thank the author for bringing something so obvious to the attention of the world!

Finally, a book full of ideas that makes it easy for anyone to help make the world a better place--and not have to spend a lot of time or money to do so. I can open the book to any page and find something that I can do with a click of my mouse, a phone call or just by paying closer attention, that will help someone or something. And that makes me feel great! I gave my sister this book as a gift during the holidays and she sat right down and started to read it even before she opened any other gift...its that good!
