When an Episcopalian priest asked John Abel to assist a grandmother gain custody of her two grandchildren Abel reluctantly accepted the job telling the priest that he was a criminal defense lawyer and not a family law lawyer. Little did he realize that his adversary was far more evil and cunning than any he had met before. Like the infamous Star Chamber family law courts are courts of equity. They don't have jury trials. Unfortunately, that is not where the similarities end.. As the case progresses Abel learns about abuse and sex trafficking but proving that to a judge who care more about decorum in her courtroom than the crimes she could not see is difficult Especially because she considers Abel a disrespectful troublemaker. This is the eighth John Abel Mystery. The photograph of the author is by Laurie Miller, the cover photograph by John Cain.
