From the back of the book: A solemn wedding vow, and one Lord Deverell's young bride most ardently wishes to bring about --- sooner rather than later! Only minutes after the wedding ceremony Alexandra is brandishing a pistol, accusing her husband of ruining her family. So Deverell makes one more vow -- that he's completely innocent and will prove it. If she isn't totally convinced, then he'll take the consequences. He sets about winning Alexandra's trust -- using every means at his disposal. This story started off with a bang but then slowed way down until nearly the end of the book. I really loved Richard (Lord Deverell). A more caring, understanding and forgiving man you couldn't find anywhere else. The flip of the coin was Alexandra. She claims to love Richard from childhood but doubts him over and over again believing anything and everything false about him. As for the "villain" of the story - he was very predictable. I figured it out almost from the start. However, the process of figuring out and proving who he was turned out to be the most interesting part of the story. It's still a good basic historical romance book and worth your time to read it.
