Mountain man Joe Fox reluctantly led a group of settlers through the Rockies--and into the clutches of Max Starbeau, who traveled with the party until he was able to commit theft and murder--and... This description may be from another edition of this product.
As usual Charles G. West has written another great Western. This one features Joe Fox, is he white or indian, real or legend. He can appear and disappear like a puff of smoke. He has agreed to leave his mountains and lead a group of settlers through the Rockies toward Oregon. They have to spend the winter in a settlement because snow has closed the mountain passes. Young Callie Simmons has fallen for Joe but her parents borbid him to see her. Joe heads back to his mountains. Then Max Starbeau, part of the original group, takes off with Callie. The rest have to try to get Joe Fox to track him down. Joe starts after him for Callie's sake and Callie's only. There are many twist and turns involving finding Callie, including indians, bank robbery and many people after Fox. Will he find her? What shape will she be in when and if he does? Will she go on to Oregon and Joe back to his beloved mountains? Read and see. A great western action book. Hard to put down when you start it. If you like westerns and have not read any by Charles G. West please do so. I think you will enjoy them.
