A lifelong bird watcher, beloved theologian John Stott took seriously Jesus' exhortation: "Behold the fowls of the air." When he wasn't preaching, teaching, or writing, Stott spent much of his free time traveling and observing birds in their natural habitat. This volume contains his compilation of photos and thoughts inspired by the majesty and beauty of the birds, and the Biblical and moral lessons they can teach us. This collector's edition of The Birds Our Teachers, includes 150 of Stott's color photographs, a DVD of his Falkland Islands trip, and an audio version of the text.
This is a beautiful book, with excellent pictures and text. We bought it as a gift, and after seeing it, intend to buy one for ourselves. I highly recommend it.Bird (DK Eyewitness Books)National Geographic Field Guide to the Birds of North America, Fifth Edition

Stott is a well respected Anglican Clergyman/Evangelist who has travelled widely, and sought to know birds. Once asked by a bishop why his response was to quote a Bible text 'Consider the birds...". He has done this himself and there is a whimsicality to some vignettes. Of course he knows his english birds closest. He can draw lessons from many and this he does skilfully. There are illustrations to help. A good read and may make some think. The CD is a bonus.
An amazing book!

Whether you're a bird lover, someone who appreciates nature in small doses, a theologian, or just an average person who enjoys reading, you will love this book! Someone gave "The Birds - Our Teachers - Collector's Edition" to my family as a gift recently and from the moment I opened it, I couldn't put it down. The photographs in the book are stunning and I love the way Mr. Stott takes the behavior and stories of the birds and weaves in Bible verses to create a practical application for the reader. Quite honestly, I was not familiar with John Stott before I saw this book, but it appears that he is a well-published theologian of whom I should have been aware. I don't know what the rest of his work is like, but I am thankful that this book is written so that anyone can read The Birds - Our Teachers and develop an even greater appreciation of these magnificent creatures and the God who created them. If you are a fan of John Stott's writing and preaching, you will be fascinated by his account of his lifelong fascination with birds. He took almost all of the photographs, and has written an interesting book, which includes the story of his 25 year search for the Arctic Snowy Owl, which he eventually saw at the age of 75, on his birthday, in 1996.If you love birds, and have never heard of John Stott, you will be enthralled by his pictures and stories. While his book relates his Christian faith to his love of birds, I think the book would appeal to any birdlover.Highly recommended.

Since receiving this book as a gift last year, I've enjoyed browsing through the amazing photographs and reading the fascinating and inspirational text. It makes the perfect gift for any gender, interest level, or occasion. I'm so disappointed to find it out of print before I've had a chance to share this treasure.
