From tempting breakfast and brunch favourites and crusty breads to mouthwatering hors d'oeuvres and sandwiches, from pizzas, soups, and stews to salads, side dishes, and fabulous desserts, you'll discover the secrets that have made Sandra Woodruff's "top-secret" cookbooks so popular. In addition to a wide-ranging selection of Sandra Woodruff's greatest recipes, many of which have been revised, retested, and updated, The Best-Kept Secrets of Healthy Cooking offers simple guidelines for healthful eating, the basics of nutrition, and plenty of hints, tips, and advice about techniques and ingredients that will help you reduce fat and calories without sacrificing good taste.
Most of my dessert recipes are Julia Child-style rich, but I recently got this book from the library to see how well I could make low-fat, whole-wheat baking work (I've been baking since I was 8 and use mostly my own recipes). Yesterday I made my usual white flour, high-fat, high-sugar banana bread for my entire office, which everyone loved. Today I made the whole wheat Brown Sugar Banana Bread from the bread section of this cookbook, without the nuts, and the ENTIRE office is raving about it! Everyone ate both kinds and declared this one just as good, if not better. I also got a number of her other cookbooks and have been VERY impressed with the recipes. Definitely a must-have for any kitchen.
Lowfat and healthy recipes that are easy and taste great

This cookbook is great! There are some traditional dishes that have been revamped so they are still flavorful, but lower in fat. The recipes are very easy to make with ingredients that can be found almost anywhere. I have substituted ingredients(like another reviewer), and the results have still been incredible. I have made several recipes including the Pasta with Scallops in Creamy Tomato Sauce, The Pasta with Shrimp Florentine, and a few of the muffin recipes. Everything has turned out very well so far. I am delighted, my husband is delighted, and most likely you will be as well.
The Best!

I have never really enjoyed cooking or spent much time in the kitchen until I got out of college and got tired of my rice and meat entrees mixed with frozen vegetables. I happened to check this book out from the library one day and tried a few recipes. EVERY THING I have created from this book has turned out excellent. Even when I forget an ingredient or alternate a few things, the recipes still turn out amazing. My friends think I can actually cook now and its always entertaining to see them go back for another plate and tell me how good my cooking is with a mouth full of food. This book is worth whatever price you pay, even if you're not that great a cook like me. Nothing is too complicated and none of the recipes use anything that you won't be using again.
Changing My Life!

This cookbook is helping with a commitment I made to change my life and not "DIEt" anymore. Every single recipe I have made out of this cookbook has been very good. My husband even looks forward to a new recipe whenever I am using this cookbook. Most cookbooks have a few good recipes...not this one. It is a winner! I came back and looked for other cookbooks by this author! If you are trying to eat healthier this cookbook is a must have! Believe me...you don't have to give up taste to be healthy...just try one of these recipes!
best kept can be your secret

A good friend of mine special ordered this book about two months ago after perusing my set of "Secrets of Fatfree Cooking Books" by Ms Woodruff that I've purchased over the years. If variety is the spice of life then you will love this cookbook. The recipes are easy and quick and very tasty. These cookbooks fit into my lowfat eating lifestyle very nicely because it stresses variety and it is jam packed with all the "what to know" type of info that will get you started eating healthy and keep you going in that direction. I don't especially care for fat-free cheeses so I use reduced fat which still results in a healthy, lowfat recipe. Like every other cookbook, lowfat or otherwise, you just make the recipes your own. And with all of the info packed in this book it won't be hard to make substitutions that appeal to you. You will be doing yourself an injustice if you don't purchase this book.
