Bob Lutz was a sports writer at the Wichita Eagle for nearly 43 years. He was the newspaper's sports columnist from 1996-2017 and wrote about a variety of interesting and engaging topics, from Kansas State football to Wichita State basketball to the Kansas City Royals winning the 2015 World Series. Lutz is a native Kansan, born in Winfield and raised in Derby. He grew up loving sports and discovered a comparable love for writing as a high school student, when he started working at the Derby Daily Reporter. Lutz's book, "The Best I Could Do," is a compilation of some of his favorite columns over the years. They cover the gamut in Kansas sports history and will leave the reader with an understanding of the state's sports scene, and its biggest stories, over a 20-year span.
