Spiritually Powerful Reading

Lester Sumrall was healed of God at an early age and lived his life as a spiritual adventurer who traveled the world telling people that Jesus Christ could do miracles. It was backed up with signs and wonders just as the Bible says. This compilation of books he's authored makes for a powerful collection. Writing on the Names of God, Sumrall explains how each Name was revealed to a specific person or persons in the Bible. For example, he writes, "God was teaching Abram more and more about Himself by giving him these different names for God. Each name had its own particular meaning, and revealed more of God's nature" (p. 55). Sumrall attributes a lot of what he learned on the gifts of the Holy Spirit to Howard Carter. As a young man, he learned from Carter firsthand insights that would stay with him a lifetime. He says the entire charismatic movement owes a lot to Howard Carter for the revelation of these truths. Sumrall echoes what others say, that God works with the knowledge you possess. Sumrall puts it, "God cannot bless ignorance; He can only bless intelligence" (p. 130). In other words only the truth you know will set you free. The section on angels couples his personal experiences with what the Bible says about their functions. Angels are mysterious. Some things can only be reported and not understood completely. Lester Sumrall left a legacy of doing the works of God. He also left us some marvelous insights on spiritual truths. This was a man who didn't just talk, but knew how to work with the power of God in seeing miracles happen.
