Back in 1982, I did not meet Reverend Joe S. Green at Church as you may think, since he was pastor of St. Matthew Baptist Church in Boyce, Louisiana. Our meeting was a little "fire and brimstone", not over religion but politics. I was a candidate for judge of the Third Circuit Court of Appeal going through the electoral district asking for votes. When I came upon Joe on lower Third Street in Alexandria, Louisiana, 30 minutes he was confrontational, persistently asking unfavorable questions, even unfavorably questioning my answers. Little did I know that Joe was testing me to see what I really stood for. Unbeknownst to me, he liked what I was saying all along. That little encounter bonded our friendship through these many years. My husband, Eddie, and I, value our friendship with Reverend Joe S. Green and we are so proud of the many meaningful accomplishments he has made, and still touches, many who need food, clothing, shelter, education and consolation in troubled times, even in Third World countries. Joe works for others through Christ in his ministry. He is a true disciple who prays the Lord's Prayer and lives by the words: "The Lord's will be done."
