Inspired by folktales around the world, from the mountains of Nepal to the plains of North America, The Barefoot Book of Monsters! tells the lesser known tales of misunderstood monsters, gentle giants, lonely ogres and hungry water creatures. Masterfully written by Fran Parnell and illustrated with Sophie Fatus' quirky charm, The Barefoot Book of Monsters! is essential reading for any child who wants the thrill of meeting some of the world's outlandish creatures.
We first found this book in the library and after returning it, I decided we needed to purchase it for our home library. The bold, bright pictures are a wonderful addition to the tales from around the world. The stories are scary enough to engage an active 6 yr. old boy, but not so scary as to result in nightmares. This is a very fun book to read aloud.
The Barefoot Book of Monsters

We borrowed this book from our library, and simply had to own it! The storys are delightful to read aloud, and the illustrations are so delicious. I'm a huge fan of many of the Barefoot Books, and this is one of my favorites. The stories all have a light yet appropriate message, too... not too scary... more of a silly scary. They're not your typical 'monster' stories my any means, and each of the stories is from a different part of the world.
