Disappointing

This is my first book by this writer. It started off quite well with a reasonable plot (for this genre). It soon became tedious and then extremely irritating. Not only do the characters talk in an overly pretentious style, which seems to have been thought appropriate for a period novel, but the writer adopts this same affected style for her own narrative, thereby destroying any enjoyment the story might have provided.
