I borrowed this book from the library and had to buy a copy for myself. Beautiful book with caprivating images of the Motherland. Great book for all ages.

Pictorial book of Africa

Gave it as a gift and was perfect for the receiver. She has been to Africa before.

Africa in pictures and blurbs

Lonely Planet takes you for a trip through every country in Africa in this oversized pictorial. Though the focus of this book is clearly on the beautiful scenery, wildlife and, especially, people of Africa, each country does get a few words about its history and travel highlights and a couple of short, simplistic essays open and conclude the book. The pictures truly are gorgeous and the book effectively demonstrates the stunning diversity and expanse of the continent. The writing in the book, however, is somewhat less consistent, often providing only trite or (somewhat characteristically of lonely planet) unduly rose-colored descriptions. You will find a lot to like and learn, but may also find yourself rolling your eyes when you read about how welcoming the people of Mogadishu are and how "the people of Africa" enjoy drumming. For the most part, though, this book will provide you with scenery for your imagining and motivation for your further study.
