Deliciously creepy atmosphere of doom

This quick read will keep you on edge until the last page. A smart and beautiful student whose mother died under mysterious circumstances begins to suspect a murderer in the midst of her small college circle of friends and acquaintances when others start to have mysterious "accidents". A claustrophobic winter envelopes the community, creating an air of tense doom that permeates the atmosphere of every page, as the girl comes closer to discovering the shocking identity of the killer. Track this book down if you can. I read it several years ago, redisovered it in a box of old books - it still gives me the shivers.
