This is a Good Starting Point to Understanding the Modern Wo

I read this book for an Engineering Society and Technology course. It drew me in from the very beginning. This book describes how cultures are affected when introduced to technology and other cultures' use of it. Though written in 1947, this book explains exactly how the modern world is behaving. Everything from Terrorism, Suicide bombers, cultural shocks is explained in this book. If you want to know how the modern world works, this book is a well worth a read.
