Come As You Were: Strange Memories of Past Lives?
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 29 years ago
"Tales of Reincarnation" is an interesting, non-fiction collection of accounts by individuals who have experienced memories of events which are thought to be vestiges of previous lives. One woman recounts her memory of being a Jewish zealot atop the Masada mesa during the Roman seige. She has strange memories--when visiting the Holy Land--of life in Masada and later of committing suicide--along with hundreds of fellow Essenes--as the Roman army stormed the mountain-top citadel (the haunting description of this fanatical mass-suicide sounds a little like the Jonestown cult Kool-Aid suicides and the Waco suicides by fire). Other subjects recount strange memories and deja-vu experiences which may (or may not) suggest the possibility of reincarnation. For anyone interested in the ancient (and modern) belief in reincarnation, this is a fascinating and provocative look at men and women who are plagued by strange memories. The author is a competent writer but there's no deep analysis--from a psychological and scientific viewpoint--of what may be going on in the minds of these so-called past-life regression subjects. In many ways, the author is preaching the gospel of reincarnation to the choir. -- Louis Varricchi
