Mom taught me many valuable lessons, some of them having to do with daily tasks, some about relating to others, some about being self-determined and others just for fun. She was one of the most efficient and independent people I have ever known. She set the example for me about living and ultimately about dying. In her final years, she presented a strong front as that same woman who instructed us, disciplined us, and cared for us when we were young, began to lose her memory. This proud and capable woman was a victim of Alzheimer's. The tables turned and this strong, independent woman was forced to become dependent in her final years.
