My favorite children's book

I'm not even sure how my wife and I came across this book, but it's one of my favorite books to read to the kids. The illustrations are wonderful and the prose is simple but very poetic, in a way. I can't even put my finger on why, but this book just has an impact on me.

Beautiful, rich illustrations, wonderfully prosaic story

This book is perfect for anyone who experienced the lazy splendor of a summer thunderstorm as a child. We got it from the library, and after one reading ordered it. Excellent for older preschoolers.
