The vast night sky holds a special attraction for young readers, and Stargazing with Jack Horkheimer: Cosmic Comics for the Sky Watcher captures that sense of wonder in words and pictures. Jack, whose monthly cartoon "Stargazing with Jack Horkheimer," has been a popular feature in Odyssey Magazine for many years, appears in animated form. As his human counterpart does in real life at the Miami Space Transit Planetarium, this cartoon Jack guides youngsters into space, helping them to explore the amazing lore and science of the moon, the sun, the planets and constellations, and other objects visible in the night sky. The book also introduces the basic concepts of stargazing and mind-boggling facts -- all presented from the viewpoint of Jack and his quirky cast of cartoon characters. Individual chapters cover "The Bright Stars and the Patterns They Make," "Seasonal Star Watching," and seasonal sky changes. Included are more than 50 cosmic comics, seasonal star-watching activities, star charts, tips for the best sky-watching, and an astronomy glossary and index.
Item is as described just as good for adults as well as kids. Very informative

If you are a fan of the PBS series that comes on tv, you will enjoy this book. I also think it would be great for younger star enthusiasts - the drawings and comic book style of the book would make it lots of fun for children. A very well done and informative book!

Only Jack Horkheimer could do this. It's a great book for all ages to learn basic concepts about our earth as a planet, other planets in our solar system and stars. Done in a comic book format, full of color and clever drawings, you can't help going from page to page, you really don't want to put it down. I highly recommend ths book for anyone who wants to learn more about what you see whan gazing at the night sky and for general astronomical information. I gave it four stars and not five stars because I thought the pages are a little bit crowded.
Entertainingly informative

Although you would think the format for this book is somewhat for the very young, it is actually informative and entertaining for any age. I would highly recommend it for those interested in rudimentary celestial information.

Stargazing with Jack Horkheimer Cosmic Comics is a great introduction to the night sky for children. I gave a copy to my grandson for Christmas. I also gave a copy to my neighbors son, who has expressed an interest in astronomy. It makes the kids want to "Keep looking up!"
