Along with Aesop, Bible stories, and Harry Potter...

...this fable should be read nightly to children and young people of all cultures and backgrounds. "Starborn," IMHO, is a wonderful opportunity using fiction to introduce the kids to new age concepts such as reincarnation, sacred contracts, karmic patterns, dharmic lessons, respect for the earth, guardian angels --how to contact them, developing one's own psychic abilities, traveling the astral plane, etc., etc.,... Clearly, this bedtime story will spark lively parent/child conversations or at least help reinforce in children's minds the understanding that they are capable, interesting, loveable, and multidimensional spirit beings having human experiences. That being said, I usually don't rate nonfictional parables very highly. For example, I thought "Celestine Prophecy" was a horrible action novel, but wonderfully effective as new age nonfiction. I am grateful to Neale Donald Walsh (and other authors) for not presenting his (their)work in a similar manner! In the case of "Starborn", pitting our hero against the evil Dr. Abigail Peterson, who predictably uses the prodigy's psychic gifts to fulfill her dreams for world peace--read: domination, came off a little too precious for my taste. But ultimately, I find reading "Starborn" worth the trouble: gleaning the author's inspirational insights from the otherwise derivative story was indeed worthwhile. And since this book celebrates its 24th anniversary this year, I wonder if perhaps the author needed to present his knowledge in storybook form, communicating, at the time, to a decidedly materialistic and pragmatic generation(1978). If so, one may ask: when will the author translate his insights into nonfiction? Maybe he already has...
