Superb Architectural History of St. Peter's Basilica
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 17 years ago
I highly recommend this book for anyone who is seriously interested in the architectural history of the Vatican. The essays on the original basilica really flesh out the architectural history of that venerable structure in detail. The essays dealing with the construction of the present basilica are equally impressive, particularly the evolution and character of Bramante's designs, which are far more complex than I had realized. The section on Bernini's work at the Vatican could form a book all on its own. This is by far the best book on St. Peter's Basilica that I have come across.
