People of all athletic abilities can play volleyball and will learn a lot from this book!

I'm sure you have and least had a glimpse at a couple of teams playing volleyball and would enjoy playing a game yourself, but you might be a bit worried you wouldn't know the rules or what is going on. It is a lot of fun if you've ever played. Perhaps even if you've played a casual game you may not know how many rules there are if you're going to play a "real" game. In this very thorough and exiting book you learn all there is to know about volleyball. Whether it is the first time or you have some experience you'll be in the know! First of all, don't grab, hold or catch that ball. Players work at bouncing the ball over the net. When "two teams hitting the ball back-and-forth to each other is called a rally." That is when your team scores. The game is divided into three or fives sets. Each set is fifteen points. In this book you will learn about serving, side-out, international volleyball (they score differently), an attack line, the front court, the back court, the free zone, types of serves, volleying, a block, the spike, the offense, the defense, an ace, a fault a dump, an outside hit, antennae, tipping, rules, referees and beach volleyball. It's not really a complicated game at all and people of all athletic abilities can have a lot of fun playing. I enjoyed reading this book and, as a very casual volleyball player, was unaware of some of the rules. For example, most casual teams will bounce that ball around until it hits the ground. I learned that "a team can only touch the ball three times before hitting it back to the opposition." Imagine that! There are great action photographs, informative sidebars, a glossary and an index. Everything you wanted to know about volleyball, casual or otherwise, is in this book. Have fun . . . summer is on its way!
