The realm of Lispector's fiction is the inner life; self-knowledge is her main concern. Like James Joyce's Dubliners, her protagonists live small, stifled lives, often unaware of their own suffering, but her lucid and richly textured narratives allow us, the readers, the epiphanies that they themselves are denied.
Clarice Lispector is a recent discovery for me. I was unsure how I would respond to her work. (I was brought to her work via Cixous, whom I discovered by way of Carole Maso's work). A creative chain of very independent women writers. Hallelujiah! Anyhow, all I can say is --- I am very happy to have discovered this writer, and I find the stories surprising, fascinating and though they were written some time ago, they feel very new! Lovers of literature will enjoy this collection!
