"Soul of the Game" is the soul of basketball, a celebration in images and voices that captures the players, the games, the shots, and the moves of the urban playground. From John Huet, the premier sports photographer who brought his look to the Nike "Trash Talk" ads, here are 100 powerful black-and-white, large-format portraits of Arkansas Red, Jackie Jackson, Nate Archibald, and Earl "The Goat" Manigault, playing on the most famous courts from Rucker Park in New York to Crenshaw High in L.A. Soul of the Game is a passionate tribute to streetball, as it's better known-a game played with hustle, flair, attitude, and athleticism. Poetry and hip-hop writing from the players themselves fill in this street hoops history with personal insights.
'Soul of the Game' is strictly a bestseller in my book. Thebook tells of where the most famous players came from: The streetcourts. This book is an inspiration to basketball players everywhere, including the pros. This a must read and should be honored as thebest in photography.
The Greatest Summary of the NYC Basketball Legends & Poetry

If you have that true love for the game of basketball and where it started than buy this book. It may not have a lot of writing, but it shows the writing in the biographical summaries of the greats the "Goat", "Destroyer", "Tiny", etc. Even know I didn't see any of the greats I still read about them. Much love to the "Goat" who stood before them all, who past away last year. Watch the movie "Rebound"!
Very good book

This was a very great book. It was very intristing . John Jay is very creative is is way cool. But I do think the reading level was a little low....... But any way that doesnt matter. As a 11 year old, I thought this book was great!!!

tthe Goat: R.I.P.

Last week, one of the greatest playground players ever to grace a NY court passed away of heart failure. The Goat was an inspiration to several generations of kids and ball players in NYC and was featured in "Soul of the Game". It was an honor to have met and worked with the Goat. One of my most treasured photos is a group shot that I took 2 years ago with the Goat, Pee W ee Kirkland, Jackie Jackson and Joe Hammond; some of the greatest legends of the court in NYC. Each of them have been featured in a TV spot created by Wieden & Kennedy and Nike. The Goat was the star of two spots, "36 Dunks" and "Sittin' on the Rim".May this great player rest in peace.
