Great Comfort, Great Guidance

I keep "Songs to a Watchful Lover" on my desk during the day and by my bedside at night. I find such comfort, such guidance in these deeply personal, beautifully written poems!!

Timeless

I would recommend this lovely companion to the psalms to anyone who is looking for The Divine in the everyday. Donna Hardy's writing is both poetic and accessible. She addresses the timeless themes of the psalms and shows integrity and honesty in her personal responses to them. This is truly a book to read and re-read!!!

Intensely Personal Yet Universal

What I especially like about this book is its honesty. The author has taken each Psalm and asked, "What do I know of this in my own life?" Her response is uniquely personal yet also something most of us can identify with - struggle, loss, despair at our human failings as well as joy, gratitude, recognition of small and great ways in which we are blessed. In all of these is Love, that accepts, forgives, understands, Love that we find in the stuff of our lives when we are open to receive it. Readers can get from these poems comfort,relief from loneliness, and hope.

The poems in this book, each one based on one of the psalms, are full of powerful ideas and images of the Divine and the Beloved. It speaks beautifully to the heart which seeks connection to the Divine--be that God, Christ, or Spirit. Yet, one doesn't need to come from only the Judeo-Christian perspective to be moved by these gems. Only to be spiritually open to the delicate connections poetry allows us to make. Highly Recommended.
