A collection of short poems, some serious and some light-hearted, inspired by observations, experiences, people and places, including themes such as love, separation, family, shopping, travel, loneliness, age and mortality. Something Happened in Normal Town is inspired by and (loosely) set in Normal Town, my imaginary settlement inhabited by real people. Horse manure on a city street, children berating an old man, an imaginary visit by an author to a post war English pub, a pandemic, a distant railway station platform or just the experience of life itself; all of these things could inspire poetic outbursts...and they did A Note from the Author I live in Manchester, England. I work a nine to five job as a Manager, I am the father of two boys, now grown up and living their lives. I am a social loner, equally happy on my own as I am in the company of others. I have travelled near and far. I have mixed with people from all walks of life, including working class folks, corporate types, engineers, nerds, arty individuals and academics. I have found something good in all of them. Now in my mid-fifties, I have written poems since I was an awkward teenager. Having spent most of my life working in industry, I never felt that I had the credentials be a proper poet, I felt like an imposter, but I had a go
