Elvin McDonald takes the reader on a tour of more than thirty of the most beautiful gardens, both public and private, of Savannah, Georgia. The tour begins with a brief history of Savannah 1/2s gardening tradition. Designed by Gen. James Oglethorpe, the city is divided into squares, with an open space for a park in the center of each square. Surrounded by so much green, the residents of Savannah were inspired to create their own personal gardens. Divided into sections, each covering a different topic, Small Gardens of Savannah and Thereabouts is filled with lush photographs revealing
the gardens 1/2 beauty. Accompanying the descriptions of the gardens are tips and suggestions that readers can use in their own gardens. Most gardens featured are approximately 10 x 10, and the tips are especially helpful for making the most of a smaller garden. In an appendix, the author also includes a planting schedule and flower suggestions for the home gardener.
