"Sketches" is an artist's book with thoughts and ideas about day-to-day life. It combines witty, thought provoking text with black-and-white line drawings of women.
The result? A fun read that will bring many smiles and laughs.
It's not just an art book of sketch drawings, but one also filled with captions and quick-witted text that will make you laugh.
The characters in the drawings always have a comment or insight about themselves or their sketch:
"I didn't want to pose like this".
"I preferred roses, but the artist chose cacti"
"We hung out at art museums hoping to be painted by famous artists".
"I was once offered a part in a best-selling novel".
"Sketches" is easy to enjoy - One can open it to any page and start reading....over and over and over again.
This 240-page book contains over 220 sketches drawn by international artist Charles Kaufman. Kaufman combined his drawings with a bit of clever, humorous text to create a fun book to view and read.
Charles Kaufman is an American artist with art studios in the U.S. and Germany.
After creating freelance cartoons & illustrations for many years and working as the Creative Director in an ad agency, Kaufman picked up the paintbrush to start painting. He has been painting and exhibiting his work full time since 1995.
Kaufman's original paintings and other works of art are exhibited in galleries and other venues in the United States and in Europe.
From the introduction of the book Sketches:
"Every day I draw in my sketchbooks in search of ideas for new paintings. Over the years I have created a library of over a hundred different sketchbooks. Thousands of drawings with all sorts of different characters and ideas. From all the sketches maybe one out of every couple hundred sketch ideas becomes a painting.
A while back I was looking through some old sketchbooks for painting ideas and I noticed that for the last few years I had been adding text, a sentence, a few words on many of the sketches. The sentences I had added were just random thoughts. Since there were so many sketches with text I got the idea to put them together in a book to share with others.
This book contains sketches taken from over 25 different sketchbooks, plus a few digital sketches.
The sketches in this book are all of women - that is what I mostly paint.
What do I use to draw? Whatever is handy; but mostly a simple ball point pen. A couple of sketches in this book were done digitally via my iPad.
All the sketches in this book were drawn between 2012 and 2015.
I hope you enjoy the book, I had fun creating it.
Charles"
