Amanda, a young lady who lives with her Aunty and works at the local market, is going to start community college in the fall. She is suddenly thrust into a journey through space and time on a quest to stop a volcano from destroying her rural community. During her travels, Amanda finds herself in some unlikely situations. She meets some highly unethical space and time jumping miscreants. She inadvertently creates an electromagnetic pulse which knocks out the local power. She encounters a civilization of space faring barbarians who dress like Vikings. She travels to a ring world geo-engineered and maintained by its inhabitants. She meets an inhabitant of the ring world who is also a young lady, Phoebe, a garden worker. The tale is sometimes narrated by a talking German shepherd who inadvertently had a super computer chip implanted instead of a normal pet microchip. Amanda is joined by the talking dog along with his master, Eddy. The local sixth grade Sunday school boys come marching into the story along with Amanda's boss, the local market owner. Doc, a nearby rancher, an old high tech guy, has his entire operation managed by robots. Doc has robot gardeners, robot cowboys, robot housekeepers. Doc has them all. The story activity revolves around a patch of singing flowers. They are a silicon based life form which come from the ring world. The plants need a hot environment. The volcano was started to provide nourishment for the flowers. Amanda and her troupe of adventurers make their way across the galaxy, grappling with their grim situation to the accomplishment of their unlikely goals.This book is family friendly and appropriate for pre-teen and older readers.
