One Couple's Journey of Spiritual Self-Discovery A True Story of Our Deepest Human Potential Among the many books dealing with spiritual growth, Silence and the Soul distinguishes itself as one of the best about the process of awakening inner wisdom. This unexpected page-turner reads like an adventure story. Part memoir and part instruction manual, this self-revealing and emotionally honest narrative is the true story of Ellen Miller and Gary Sherman, an otherwise ordinary, middle-aged, California couple. On page one, Miller, age 45, is hospitalized with a rare, incurable disease. Driven by curiosity and the simple belief that within each of us lies a source of wisdom, love and creative energy, the authors embark on a captivating and extraordinary excursion into expanded consciousness that ultimately takes them on a spiritual journey deep within themselves. Theirs is an account of a mutual awakening: a cooperative relationship between two people and an inner teacher. This source engages them in "The Conscious Evolution of Consciousness," a process of training and teaching that transforms their lives and opens extraordinary capacities of expanded perception. This is a rare telling, from the inside out. Like a good documentary film, the book takes us on a voyage through the internal landscape of their step-by-step process. Reminiscent of the works of Jane Roberts and Carlos Castaneda, Silence and the Soul is a decidedly unselfconscious attempt to reveal Miller and Sherman's internal experience. Interwoven throughout the chapters are insights and practices for unleashing inner creativity. There are dozens of examples and techniques for evolving and utilizing this creative energy in all aspects of daily life. Miller and Sherman have written a book that is accessible to spiritually sophisticated readers as well as to those who are unfamiliar with metaphysical literature.
Collaboratively written by Ellen Miller and Gary Sherman (creators of the Perceptual Integration Process), Silence And The Soul: Awakening Inner Wisdom is a deeply spiritual book about traversing a journey of consciousness. Miller and Sherman cogently describe the soul-searching effects of listening to the wisdom of one's Inner Teacher, and drawing upon connections between emotional cleansing and a higher level of outreach to the world around us. Highly recommended reading for students of spirituality, Silence And The Soul is a profound metaphysical and personal testimony to the evolution of perception, both within and beyond the five senses.
Silence and the Soul Review

This book is a great "relationship autobiography" of two very conscious beings who share their journey of deepening with each other, and through the book, with us. I think we are living in a time when a lot of what has traditionally been called "spiritual work' is being done with a partner--someone who both nurtures us and who chafes us into looking more honestly and deeply at ourselves. Silence and the Soul was a great inspiration to live my life larger and more meaningfully and to understand the power of intention and conscious choice.

An extraordinary and very readable story of the author's pioneering work in accessing the source of wisdom, love and compassion within herself. The specific guidance she received for so many aspects of her life promises that such knowledge is available to all of us if we will only learn to listen.

Silence and the Soul is an intimate journal of self exploration -- one so engrossing, that I barely noticed how profoundly it affected the development of my own internal life as I read on. It is an experiential guidebook for conscious living, showing as well as telling us how to utilize our inner source of wisdom to create vital, vibrant lives.

This book is one that I will carry with me for a long time. It offers many opportunities for personal growth. I have read it cover to cover, which was not always easy, as the lessons there-in seemed to be whispering in my ear to listen carefully. I have also just openned it up for a bit of wisdom now and then and find that is very powerful as well. The author, Ellen, is generous in offering her story for others to learn from as it takes courage to allow yourself to unfold for the reader. This is a story of a woman in deep mystery and also gentle joy.
