This book provides a political economy perspective on recent changes within Canadian public administrative practice and structure, revealing the theoretical and practical underpinnings of neoliberal public administration. The role of globalization, state fiscal crisis, economic restructuring, and the ideological shift to the political right are viewed as central explanatory factors in public administrative and public policy change.
Excellent eye-opener into Canada's ideological war.

This book seems along the lines of Linda McQuaig's series on the crisis in Canadian Welfare state. However, I think it is more difficult to read and get into at first. Once into the book, I found it an excellent explanation about what is happening in Canada's federal and provincial governments: Cuts to social programs, increasing influence of business, the details of our deficit and debt and an description of the effects of globalization. I highly recommend "Shrinking the State" for anyone who wants to open his or her mind to the ideology that is currently directing the massive transformation in the way Canada is governed!
