the characters are living and breathing in these pages. the last 200 pages were captivating--I faked an illness and skipped dinner and drinks with friends to curl up in my son's room until I got to the last page. as impossible as it seemed there were no villians--despite murders, bombings, kidnappings and hate...it was truely balanced. I found myself on every side. I really enjoyed this book. kind of kite runner and eat, pray love all in the same book. philosophical yet suspenseful. totally enjoyed this one.

Harry Jones is the father of one of my best friends, so I remember when the book came out originally. Nevertheless, I didn't think I was going to be interested in the subject matter. I told my mom about the book this summer and she asked me to buy it for her birthday. I did, she read it, loved it, and passed it on to me. It's a really engaging novel and very informative. Mr. Jones is himself a foreign service officer, so he knows the subject matter well. I met his son as a fellow English major in college (his son also writes well). This is a book that is a quick read and hard to put down. Give it a try!!
