They need to advertise this book somewhere. It is SO good!! My kiddos and I read it and are in book two. We loved it! Even my husband who was working around the house got sucked in a few times and would ask what happen.
Edge of your seat excitement from beginning to end

This books started like a good book and got better. Then, just when it seems like a great time to finish up the book, it really took off and got more exciting! I enjoyed this bok as much as my children ages 10-15! Adventure and excitement are dripping from the pages. Some of it is a little predictable and fairy tale-ish, but we all love a happy ending and a bad guy we can really hate! This is a definitely one to buy, not just to check out of the library. PS, the sequel and book three are exceptional, as well!
Excellent first read - great family story

I was skeptical about what to expect from an unknown author trying to get into the teen book space, but as my kids are approaching that age where these books really interest them, I have been looking. I was very pleased when my kids requested the sequel "Widow's Revenge", so we started listening to the audio CD's on our family trip. The plot is clever, though a bit cliched, with original characters like Maggie the vet and not-so-original characters like Jack Mackey, who is a direct ripoff of the Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin. However, all the protagonists are very likeable, and the villain is deeper than is typical of a normal "kids" novel. I'm waiting for my kids to finish the second one now, so I can have a go at it. I wouldn't say it's a Harry Potter kind of deep novel, but my kids, from ages 7 - 12 love it, and so do we as their parents.
Better than Harry Potter!!

I picked up this book out of sheer bordom. I was desperate for reading material and living in India it is hard for me to find the authors I like or books I don't already have. My 11 year old son had read this book, a gift from his grandmother, a few months ago and couldn't put it down. This is rare for him. It is usually hard to get him to read. I asked him what suggestions out of his books I should read and he grabbed his Artemis Fowl books as well as this but suggested I read this one first because it was his favorite. I could see why. I was captured from page one. This book keeps moving at a great pace and has it all, adventure, likeable and not so likeable characters, great plot and even just enough romance that the girls can like it but no so much that boys will be turned off. I look forward to sequels from this author.
