Serena declared that she would play in the US Open in Flushing Meadows at the end of the month after winning her first match in more than a year on Monday at the National Open in Toronto.
Her last grand slam match will take place then.
The 40-year-old has won 23 grand slam titles, which is one more than the record held by Margaret Court and the most during the Open Era.
