It surveys a very large subject area of aromatic chemistry: phenylalkylbenzenes, benzoic acids and related compounds, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and their derivatives, together with a range of other systems including benzocyclopropenes and benzocyclobutenes. All these subjects are dealt with thoroughly. Thus, although topics of current interest are highlighted, such as new synthetic methodology and control of stereochemistry, less familiar areas are certainly not neglected and the older ones are brought up to date.
